A Kyiv Independent journalist, present on the ground, described hearing four loud explosions in the city center around 2:50 a.m. local time. The Pecherskyi district also experienced six explosions within a mere three minutes, leaving residents with no time to seek shelter.
The consequences of these strikes were immediate and devastating. A fire broke out at a commercial building in the Obolonskyi district, as reported by the Kyiv City Military Administration. Additionally, another building was set ablaze in the Holosiivskyi district, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
A Constant Threat
The Russian Air Force had issued a warning earlier in the night about the potential for a ballistic missile attack, only to cancel it at 2:35 a.m. However, just minutes later, the threat returned, and the explosions began.
Russia's relentless attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure have become a tragic norm. On August 11, Russian forces employed North Korean ballistic missiles and Zircon cruise missiles to strike Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv, resulting in the deaths of seven workers at the Zaporizhstal steel plant and injuries to 24 others in Zaporizhzhia. One civilian was also injured in Kyiv.
The attacks continued unabated. On August 8, a Russian ballistic missile attack killed four, including a three-year-old child, in Ukraine's capital and Kyiv Oblast. Just three days earlier, on August 5, another ballistic missile attack claimed the lives of 17 people in the capital and its surrounding areas.
